Pre-departure Orientation

All students participating in an education abroad program are REQUIRED to complete a D2L presentation prior to departure.  This is mandatory for all accepted* participants and must be completed at least four (4) weeks before departure.

Students are enrolled in the D2L presentation by the Office for Education Abroad and will be notified via email when the presentation is ready for their program.

The presentation covers a wide range of topics including passports, visas, air travel, course enrollment, financial matters, medical insurance, safety issues, cultural adjustment, what to expect when students return home, and more. This information is an extremely important part of pre-departure planning and will answer the most frequently asked questions.

As part of the presentation, students must complete a quiz in each section with a score of at least 80%.

In addition to the D2L orientation, program-specific orientations may also be required.  Students should check with their program director or adviser to see if this applies for their specific program.

Optional workshops are also available that cover specific regions and countries, as well as diverse identities abroad. These will be listed on the Events page.

For students enrolling in a partner institution abroad (direct-enrollment or exchange program), resident directors from the host institution often offer on-site orientations.

*Students who have not been accepted, are wait-listed or have withdrawn, do not need to complete this orientation.
