Global Learning Fellowship

The Center for Global Learning and Innovation is pleased to announce a fellowship opportunity intended to provide professional development to MSU faculty and academic specialists who wish to incorporate global teaching and learning into:

  • Courses
  • Academic activities
  • Capstone experiences
  • Co-curricular activities
  • Global research
  • International internships
  • Education abroad programs

The fellowship consists of a series of sessions on global learning pedagogies in spring 2027, followed by project preparation that culminates in implementation by summer 2028. Project themes could include

  • Globally immersive experiences
  • Intercultural exchange
  • Intercultural competence
  • Cultural awareness
  • Language proficiency
  • Development of multicultural and multilingual communication skills

Project formats include infusion of global content into existing courses, conducting original research, impact assessments, etc. Preference will be given to projects without international travel components.

Upon project completion, successful fellows will share their project with their academic units, and promote it through poster presentations or sessions at the Global Learning Seminar Series, Student Success Launch and Summit, Spring TALKS Conference, or Faculty and Academic Staff Affairs (FASA) Academic Lunch & Learn Session.

An honorarium of $1,500/fellow will be available for use in support of projects.*

Eligible fellows must be MSU faculty or academic specialists with anticipated teaching, research, and/or curriculum development appointments in 2027-28.

We anticipate welcoming up to 10 fellows to the Global Learning Fellowship in 2027.

*NOTE: Honoraria at MSU are taxable and may not be received until the start of fall 2027.

Application and selection process

Required materials to apply:

  • Completed application form
  • Professional CV
  • Statement of intent addressing how the fellowship will enhance and round out your professional development
  • Clearly articulated project proposal with intended impact and outcomes
  • One letter of support from department chair or work supervisor

Eligible fellows must be MSU faculty or academic specialists with anticipated teaching, research, and/or curriculum development appointments in 2027-28.

Applications are due Friday October 23, 2026.

A selection committee formed by leadership of the Center for Global Learning and Innovation, in consultation with the ISP Dean’s Office, will evaluate all applications based on conformity with the eligibility requirements, strength of the proposed project, and anticipated impact of proposed project. Fellows will be informed of acceptance by Friday, November 20, 2026.

2027 Spring Sessions

Fellows are required to attend four professional development sessions. 

Given the interactive format of these meetings, featuring local and external experts, and to further encourage cohort-based learning, only relevant portions of the online sessions will be recorded (note: slides/materials will be shared afterwards via email).
