Planning Grants

 

As a degree-seeking student at Michigan State University, you are eligible to apply for one or more Planning Grants. These grants are available to support and encourage global learning through participation in education abroad.

Grants are $500 each and can be used any time during your MSU career. Recipients do not need to have a program identified or know exactly what they want to do abroad at the time of application, however the grants can only be applied to MSU-sponsored programs listed in Via Global.

Recipients will be chosen at random when the application closes.


Transfer Student Planning Grant

Eligibility requirements:

  • MSU undergraduate student who previously attended a post-secondary institution after graduating from high school (excluding the summer term immediately following graduation)
  • Minimum 2.0 GPA at time of participation
  • To be used any time during a student’s undergraduate career
  • Valid on MSU-sponsored education abroad programs only

Applications will be accepted between October 1st and October 31st.

25 awards will be chosen at random when the application closes.

First-Gen Student Planning Grant

Eligibility requirements:

  • MSU undergraduate first-generation student defined as one whose parents or legal guardians did not complete a four-year bachelor's degree
  • Minimum 2.0 GPA at time of participation
  • To be used any time during a student’s undergraduate career
  • Valid on MSU-sponsored education abroad programs only

Applications will be open between October 15th and November 15th.

25 awards will be chosen at random when the application closes.

Students with Disabilities Planning Grant

Eligibility requirements:

  • MSU undergraduate who is registered with the Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities (RCPD)
  • Minimum 2.0 GPA at time of participation
  • To be used any time during a student’s undergraduate career
  • Valid on MSU-sponsored education abroad programs only

Applications will be open between November 15th and December 15th.

25 awards will be chosen at random when the application closes.

Global Spartans Planning Grant

Eligibility requirements:

  • Undergraduate or graduate student attending Michigan State University
  • Minimum 2.0 GPA at time of participation
  • To be used any time during a student’s MSU career
  • Valid on MSU-sponsored education abroad programs only

Applications will be open for one day only – February 22, 2027.

50 awards will be chosen at random when the application closes.

Veteran and Military-Affiliated Student Planning Grant

Eligibility requirements:

  • MSU undergraduate service-member, veteran, or military-affiliated student
  • Minimum 2.0 GPA at time of participation
  • To be used any time during a student’s undergraduate career
  • Valid on MSU-sponsored education abroad programs only

Applications will be open from April 15th to May 15th.
