MSU continually seeks every avenue possible to help all Spartans become globally-engaged citizen leaders who are ready to change the world. Ensuring Spartans have a passport removes a critical barrier to education abroad, especially for students of limited financial means. It may be the first step that allows students to see education abroad as a genuine option.
Having a passport provides the opportunity to study abroad, and also affords personal and professional benefits.
This scholarship not only supports MSU’s overall mission to educate global citizen leaders, but also strengthens the drive to diversify the student population that participates in education abroad.
To apply, each applicant must at a minimum be:
Students must apply online between September 15 and October 15, 2024 to be considered for the award. Once the application window has closed, 35 students will be chosen at random for an award.
Awards will be in the amount of $200 which should be applied towards the passport application process ($130 application fee, $35 execution fee, $15 photos, and $20 priority mailing fees).
Winners will be notified via email after eligibility has been verified.
Awards will be posted to the scholarship recipient’s MSU Student Account. Students should expect to pay for their passport on their own. The Office for Education Abroad will not directly pay for the passport.
Special thanks to the Institute of International Education (IIE) as MSU received an IIE American Passport Project Grant in 2022 that inspired this program to continue.
NOTE: Several MSU colleges have offered similar passport funding programs in the past (Arts & Letters, Business, Engineering, Natural Science and Social Science). Check with your MSU College for details.
