This program gives science majors the opportunity to immerse themselves in German culture while working on their own individualized research project. Students are mentored by local Heinrich-Heine Universität Düsseldorf (HHUD) faculty during this eleven-week summer intensive research experience.

Translating International Experiences into Global Mindset and Career Development is an interactive workshop designed to help students reflect on and articulate the value of their international experiences - whether through study abroad, internships, service learning, or other global engagements - in ways that enhance both personal growth and professional readiness. Participants will explore the concept of a global mindset, identify transferable skills gained from cross-cultural experiences, and learn practical strategies to showcase these competencies in resumes, interviews, and networking conversations.

Guest speaker: Ying Liu 

Ying Liu is the Founder and CEO of Blue Lake Packaging, a fiber-based packaging startup focused on sustainable innovation and operational excellence. Prior to founding Blue Lake, she served as Senior Director of Product Operations and Corporate Supplier Responsibility at Apple, where she built Apple China Procurement and Operations and worked extensively with suppliers and manufacturers across Asia. She holds an MBA in Supply Chain Management and Finance from Michigan State University and brings extensive global experience in operations, supply chain, sustainability, and entrepreneurship.

Experiences of LGBTQIA+ individuals vary greatly across cultures, countries, and communities. Join us for a thoughtful conversation exploring the diverse realities, challenges, and strengths of LGBTQIA+ communities around the world.

This discussion will examine how cultural traditions, laws, social norms, and community networks shape experiences of identity, belonging, advocacy, and inclusion. Participants will have the opportunity to learn from global perspectives and consider how greater awareness and understanding can foster more inclusive environments both locally and internationally.

Presented in collaboration with the Gender and Sexuality Campus Center (GenCen) Dr. Alejandra Marquez Guajardo, and Dr. Shayan Rajani, this webinar will highlight the importance of intersectionality and global solidarity in advancing equity and inclusion.
