The Office for Education Abroad is excited to announce the 2024 Global Learning Expo will take place on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at the Breslin Center from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

NOTE: The Expo is taking place on a WEDNESDAY this year to enable students and faculty to observe Rosh Hashana.

The Global Learning Expo (formerly the Education Abroad Expo) is is the largest event sponsored by the Office for Education Abroad and has been highly successful over the past two decades with an average attendance of almost 3,000 students over the last 10 years.

Tables may be reserved by current program directors, representatives from MSU colleges or departments, MSU support units, and MSU partners from abroad. 

  • The Expo is NOT open to outside vendors or anyone not affiliated with current MSU education abroad or domestic study away programming.
  • Existing affiliated and institutional partners are ONLY permitted to promote MSU college-sponsored or authorized affiliated programs.
  • DSA programs are only permitted to promote their program if they have subscribed to the COMPREHENSIVE package. Contact Erin Kunert with questions.

 Table reservations are now CLOSED for the 2024 Expo.

If you were not able to reserve a table by the deadline and would like to participate in the Expo, please check with your college representative(s) to see if you can display materials at their table.

WHAT IS PROVIDED TO EXHIBITORS

  • 6-foot table
  • Two chairs per table
  • Linens for each table
  • Access to electrical outlets (an extension cord may be needed, so please bring one)
  • Wireless network access
  • Welcome packet (sign-up sheets, name tags, Expo map)
  • Flyer of upcoming information meetings (complete the form on the Information Meeting webpage no later than September 20th to be included)
  • Parking validations (for off-campus exhibitors only)
  • Prize for best display
  • Event promotion (posters, website, social media, advertising, etc.)

Anyone attending the Global Learning Expo will be required to comply with current health and safety directives in place from Michigan State University.

SCHEDULE

  • 12:00 pm: Set-up (enter at the Gilbert Pavilion/Hall of History gate)
  • 1:00 pm: Expo opens to students
  • 4:30 pm: Best Display awarded
  • 5:00 pm: Expo closes

Accommodations

For our visitors from off-campus who need overnight accommodations, the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center on Harrison Avenue is the closest venue to the Breslin Center.  Additional local accommodations can be found at Travel at State.

Individuals are responsible to pay their own room, tax and incidentals.

Parking and directions

The Jack Breslin Student Events Center hosts the MSU Education Abroad Expo and is located on campus at 534 Birch Road, East Lansing, MI 48824.

Parking is available for MSU faculty/staff in lot 126 (enter off Shaw Lane).

Public parking is available in lot 63 (enter off Harrison Road) and is a pay-by-plate lot.  Upon request, exhibitors will receive a special code that will validate parking.  This code must be requested via email at least 24 hours prior to the event and will not be posted on this page. Without the code, exhibitors will pay the normal parking rate. Payment is made at the kiosk in the parking lot or with the SPOT ON mobile payment smartphone app.  

Please pay close attention to the signs in the lot.  If you park in the wrong lot, you may be ticketed by the MSU Police.  The Office for Education Abroad is not responsible for any parking tickets incurred by exhibitors or students.

Check-in

Program directors and other exhibitors may arrive at the Breslin Center beginning at 12:00 pm and should enter through the Gilbert Pavillon/Hall of History Gate. Office for Education Abroad staff will be available to direct you to your assigned table.

The Expo takes place this year from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

All display materials are the responsibility of the exhibitor and must be taken with you at the end of the expo. The Office for Education Abroad will recycle or throw away items left behind.

Exhibitors who do not show up, or leave early, may have their participation revoked at next year's expo.

Table displays

The Office for Education Abroad encourages you to create the best display at this year’s Expo! 

Here are some ideas for creating an original and effective display:

  • Display PHOTOS from your program
  • Show VIDEOS taken on site
  • Exhibit interesting ARTIFACTS
  • Distribute FLYERS about your program with links to your Via Global program brochure
  • Have MEDIA items such as newspapers, magazines or postcards from your destination
  • Offer FOOD items relevant to the region where your program takes place
  • Create a POWERPOINT presentations displayed on a laptop
  • Select MUSIC to play from your program’s region
  • Display or wear costumes or CLOTHING from the host culture
  • Drape FLAGS from your destination abroad over your table
  • Furnish actual ITINERARIES from a previous program
  • Staff your table with PAST PARTICIPANTS or EXCHANGE STUDENTS

Not only will your creative efforts attract more students to your table, you’ll also be eligible to win a special gift basket filled with a wonderful assortment of gourmet delights from around the world! MSU students, staff members, and/or outside associates (determined by EA) will walk through the expo and judge your display based on how informative, creative, and inviting it is for students. Winners will be announced at 4:30 pm and will be presented with their prize at that time.

Please note that items are not allowed to be taped to the walls of the Breslin Center.
