The Office of International Health and Safety

In partnership with our office, The Office of International Health and Safety (OIHS) oversees the health, safety, and security of all education abroad participants and directors. OIHS is your resource for anything related to international health and safety including emergency preparedness and response, international health insurance, and travel safety guidance.

MSU employs two full-time staff persons dedicated to overseeing international health and safety concerns, and responding to emergencies abroad involving students, faculty or staff. The Director and Coordinator for International Health and Safety evaluate risk, plan for emergencies, and manage crises for over 3,000 student, faculty, and staff international travelers each year.

OIHS works closely with the Office for Education Abroad, Colleges and Departments, the Risk and Security Assessment Committee, the University Physician, and MSU Police to prevent or minimize the impact of risks to study abroad participants and program directors.
