MSU offers one of the nation’s largest and most respected catalogs of faculty-directed programming in the nation. Participating in education abroad with an MSU faculty member provides an ideal opportunity for students to engage firsthand in an international dimension of their chosen discipline.

For many students, studying internationally presents a unique opportunity to jumpstart the establishment of international networks, develop new skills and knowledge to enhance their careers, and begin the process of seeing themselves as engaged citizens within a broader, international landscape.

Education Abroad is eager to partner with colleges to create high-quality, academic programming that both aligns with targeted student learning outcomes, and highlights the signature strengths of the sponsoring department.

Selecting and Accepting Students

Planning happens long in advance before a program prepares to go abroad. Program directors need to consider several key topics, including student admittance, academic and course administration, finances, and personal travel.

Implementing and/Directing a Program

Program directors for faculty-directed education abroad programs are responsible for developing and finalizing the program budget, maintaining fiscal records and academic integrity of the courses, coordinating class activities, and responding to any emergency situations which may arise.

As someone who will be responsible for leading an MSU education abroad program, you may find yourself facing an emergency involving one or more of the students in your care.

Post-Program Follow-Up

Chances are that your mentoring and professorial relationship may be the most significant one during your students' careers at MSU. It is important to stay connected to your students when returning back to campus, as well as following up with Education Abroad for travel reconciliation.
