On August 9, 2024, a 31-year-old woman doctor was raped and murdered during a 36-hour work shift. The heinous incident took place at the medical college hospital campus in Kolkata, India. Since then, country wide protests have erupted against violence against women and the larger corruption of the state. The panel brings together four women who are connected to the city of Kolkata in diverse ways, sharing reflections on the state of women’s rights, safety, gendered violence, and government response towards what has become a lived reality for many.
