The Work, Labor, and Song in the Life of Sarah Ogan Gunning. Presented by Sue Massek, Folk Performer. Sue Massek is one of the founders of the award-winning Kentucky feminist-labor Reel World String Band, which celebrates its 37th anniversary this year, with all the original members still in the band.
For decades, Sarah Gunning wrote and performed hauntingly beautiful ballads about the lives of working people. Facing Starvation, Sarah, her brother Jim Garland, and half-sister Aunt Molly Jackson moved their family of 17 to New York City where they were an early influence in the folk music revival.
