Creating Inclusive Communities to Enhance Intercultural Learning
Wednesday, February 28, 2018
11:30 AM-1:00 PM
Lake Superior Room, MSU Union
Creating an inclusive community among your Education Abroad participants can maximize the learning potential of your EA program, and can also help to diffuse contentious "hot topic" conversations into opportunities for intercultural growth and understanding. This workshop will feature a presentation by Donna Kaplowitz from the MSU Office for Inclusion & Intercultural Initiatives. She will share with us her expertise in intergroup dialogues, which she has facilitated in a variety of settings, from college classrooms to EA programs in Cuba. Please join us at this session to equip yourself with concrete tips and guidelines that you can begin implementing right away in order to build trust and openness among group members, and to facilitate dialogue that seeks mutual understanding.
We are excited to be partnering with Donna Rich Kaplowitz, who is a Faculty Associate of the Intercultural Dialogues Program in the Office for Inclusion & Intercultural Initiatives and a Faculty Associate and Assistant Professor in the Department of Teacher Education. Previously, she has served as an assistant professor in the Residential College in the Arts and Humanities (RCAH). She holds a PhD in International Relations from the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) of Johns Hopkins University. Donna has spent the last seven years developing and teaching a variety of intergroup dialogue courses in RCAH, and has trained college student facilitators to facilitate race dialogues in the K-12, MSU, and community settings.
We hope to see you there! Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
