Inclusive Excellence

Promoting access and student success is an important piece of our mission to position education abroad as a high impact practice that fosters student success and creates a richer environment for all.

What are we doing?

Below are a few examples of how we currently foster a sense of belonging while also intersecting the four Guiding Principles developed to frame and support our mission.

  • Dedicating funds for first-generation students who want to study abroad through the First-Gen Education Abroad Scholarship.
  • Growing identity and diversity abroad information shared in pre-departure orientation and expanding identity and diversity resources on our webpage so students can plan and prepare for their experience abroad.
  • Encouraging new programs that are innovative, affordable and increase the number of traditionally underrepresented students in education abroad by providing financial support through the Innovation Grants for Faculty Directed Program Development.
  • Sharing stories from students of diverse backgrounds who participated in education abroad.
  • Offering a wide variety of program options that fit the financial, academic and personal needs of all student populations.
  • Urging the Office for Education Abroad team (students and staff) to participate in professional development and training opportunities that inspire them to be welcoming and inclusive of our diverse campus community.
