Dean Hanson appoints Volodymyr Tarabara as CERES Associate Director

International Studies and Program Dean Steven Hanson has appointed Professor Volodymyr Tarabara as Tarabara.jpgAssociate Director of the Center for European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies (CERES), effective May 15.   Vlad is a long time member of the CERES Core Faculty from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, having served as an elected member of our Faculty Advisory Committee. 

Over his years at MSU, he has developed interesting and productive research and student exchange ties with partner academic institutions in Ukraine, the Republic of Georgia, France, Russia, Turkey and Norway, to name a few of the most recent ones.   "I am sure you will find him ready and eager to help support your teaching, research and outreach activities, as we try to strengthen our programming and engagements in the broad European and Eurasian region," said CERES director, Norman Graham.

Dr Tarabara's research on oil flow beneath ice in the great lakes was highlighted in a recent article featured in MSUToday.

His research interests are at the junction of colloid and interface science and separation science.  Current work includes projects on emulsion separation, virus removal and detection, and catalytic membrane reactors. Dr. Tarabara has co-authored over 80 peer-reviewed journal papers and co-edited the Encyclopedia of Membrane Science and Technology (Wiley). Since joining MSU, he has mentored 32 graduate students and 9 postdocs.  Dr. Tarabara is a member of  ASEE, AEESP, IWA, NAMS, the Fulbright Association as well as ASCE and EWRI where he serves as the Editor for Special Collections of the Journal of Environmental Engineering. At MSU, he teaches courses on environmental transport, unit operations, and risk analysis.
