IIE American Passport Project

Michigan State University was selected by the Institute of International Education (IIE) to receive an IIE American Passport Project Grant that will enable up to 25 eligible MSU students to obtain a U.S. passport in support of their education abroad journey.

Each MSU applicant must at a minimum:

  • Be eligible for a Pell Grant
  • Be in their first year of college at MSU
  • Be a U.S. citizen
  • Be applying for their first U.S. Passport
  • Be 18 years of age or older

Eligible MSU students will be nominated to IIE by the Office for Education Abroad. IIE will communicate directly with students to confirm the nomination. Students will be nominated on a first-come, first-served basis until funds are no longer available or until December 16, 2022.

Each student will be awarded $200 to apply towards their U.S. passport application process ($130 application fee, $35 execution fee, $15 photos, and $20 priority mailing fees).

Special thanks to the Colleges of Arts & Letters, Engineering, Natural Science and Social Science at Michigan State University for contributing additional funds to this initiative allowing for more than 20 additional awards to be granted on top of the 25 IIE awards.
